MAREK LATZMANN
Biographical Note
Marek Latzmann was born in Brno, former Czechoslovakia, in 1960. From 1975 to 1979, he attended the Arts and Crafts College in Brno. His training concentrated on monumental sculpture as well as functionalist design. He graduated as an Industrial Designer. In the following years he worked at the International Fairgrounds of Brno, Anthropos Institute (Moravian Museum) in Brno, as well as in the National Museum in Prague. After having moved to Québec, out of his studio in Sutton he created dioramas and paleontological reconstructions for the Ex Terra Foundation in Edmonton, Alberta, and the Fundy Geological Museum in Parsborro, Nova Scotia. Since 1993 he works in Sutton, Quebec as a freelance visual artist. Marek Latzmann carves figurative sculptures out of wood, inspired by shape of animal and human form. Some are reproduced in other materials.
